Welcome to Teachers' Zone

Welcome to Teachers’ Zone

Dear Teachers,

It is my great pleasure to introduce Teachers’ Zone to you.

Teachers’  Zone   is supposed to be the space where you   should find up-to-date and regularly updated   information concerning our  daily work at school – currently shifted to online mode, but  soon, hopefully,  back in its traditional form, related to lesson materials, competitions, self-development. It is my dream to see us  exchanging our experience here and get the feeling that we are not alone.  I would like Teachers’ Zone to be the place visited for its inspirations and ideas that will not  be  only time-saving and pleasant but mostly helpful and facilitating students’ learning process.

Teachers’ Zone  is OUR space, so all your comments and tips are welcome .

Enjoy!

To start with, since December is the beginning of  the  holiday season you might find the following websites useful:

Activity 1

Use these fun Christmas-themed topics to practice public speaking and debate-style skills in your classroom! Get your students moving by hanging up four signs that indicate the following: strongly agree, agree, strongly disagree, disagree.

Present the following topics and let the discussion begin! Students should be prepared to share their reasons for their opinion selection, so they should choose their decision wisely.

Discussion topic #1: Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays?

Discussion topic #2: A real Christmas tree or an artificial tree?

Discussion topic #3: Is re-gifting okay?

Discussion topic #4: The angel or the star as the treetop?

Discussion topic #5: Which is better, giving or getting? Why?

Activity 2

While helping our students write why not use this topic suggested by Sara:

Are millennials REALLY selfish, or are they the most giving generation to date?

Has society gotten any better since Ebenezer Scrooge’s time, or would Dickens still judge us?

Activity 3

While using videos :you can show this video about American Christmas traditions and then have students ask questions or compare what they learned to their native country’s winter celebrations. (The video is created specifically for English learners and includes some great vocabulary.) Alternatively, you can open a discussion on British Christmas or Australian Christmas  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lupd9fyJ0Yw  .

3. If you feel like discussing social/emotional meaning of Christmas you can try using The John Lewis & Waitrose Christmas Advert 2020 available on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Juv2c0xgGno       or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdU3dLZWso0    to name just a few.

You may use the adverts in a  lot of ways- to practise speaking, writing, listening. Whatever way you choose just keep in mind- the videos are extremely moving and some people, me including, while watching it can’t stop crying…

When it comes to self-development my  very first recommendation is  attending free webinars available at https://edunation.com.pl/webinaria/

Hope to see you in 2 weeks!
